It's hot
Posted Friday, August 1, at 8:01 AM
Welcome to August and the heat and humidity that takes your breath away! The extremes of summer and winter don't agree with me anymore -- I'll take spring and fall all year long.

When I was a child, we didn't have air conditioning for a long time and I don't remember the heat and humidity being this bad -- although I'm sure it was, we just weren't acclimatized to cooled air back then.

A box fan placed in front of the screened front door was the coolest place to sleep. The hard floor didn't even matter as long as a light cool breeze could be felt.

Today, I work in an air conditioned office, drive an air conditioned car, shop in air conditioned stores and live in an air conditioned house. And, the heat outside is intolerable if I have to spend too much time in it.

If a disaster struck and we were to lose the electricity we have grown so use to, would we survive or would our bodies simply melt? I know for a fact I would suffer through some splitting headaches while my body acclimatized itself to the heat.

The forecast for this week is the hottest yet, but I suppose we'll struggle through in our climate-controlled world. Soon, we can change our tune and complain about how cold it is. We really are spoiled.

Everyone should attend FCH Open House
Posted Friday, July 11, at 1:24 PM

It's finally ready -- the open house for the new addition at the Fulton County Hospital will be held July 20 from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. and area residents will get a first-hand look at the impressive changes that have taken place. Even before you pull into the parking area at the hospital you notice the changes. ...

What we see in a picture
Posted Thursday, June 26, at 4:54 PM

Can I look at a picture and see one thing while someone else looks at the same photo and sees something quite different? I guess that's the case. Most people who know me would say I'm a sensitive person. I don't set out to hurt others although I'm sure I have many times in my life. Haven't we all?...

Reporters at the scene
Posted Thursday, June 12, at 12:59 PM

A very big part of our job is taking pictures. Most of the time it's a job we enjoy. We get to capture a memory and 98% of the time -- it's a good memory. Sometimes, however, we capture a scene that brings tears to the eyes of the photographer. (Believe it or not ... we are human.)...

Week one is history!
Posted Friday, May 30, at 9:14 AM

We made it through our first week with our new Web site, but it seemed at times the site was unavailable more often than it was up and going. I've been assured this is normal as we go through a period of terminating the bugs that keep popping up and that it is not something that will happen on a regular basis. So, if you were among those who couldn't get on the site last week, please keep trying -- IT WILL GET BETTER...

It's brand new!
Posted Monday, May 19, at 4:30 PM

If you're reading this you are looking at our new Web site. Our Webmaster, Jessica Goff, has been working on this new site for several weeks and she's still not done -- there's a lot more to come and we think you're going to enjoy it. The new site opens the door for us to offer you much more news, pictures and even videos. You can check the weather forecast, see live radar, view breaking national news stories and keep up-to-date about what's going on in this area...
