I like your new web-site. Absolutely wonderful. Thanks

Your redesigned website looks great. I have already suggested our Cherokee Village Internet Forum support your site as it is beneficial to all our area residents.

The Mayor of Cherokee Village considers the city owned website as his own personal domain. Why do I say this, because he refuses to list our Cherokee Village Internet Forum www.village2ya.com

in the clubs/organization web page. He views an Internet based club as not worthy in comparison with the listed organizations. We have over 200 members, that are mostly residents of the Village. What is he worried about?

The Village City website showing people already arrested, and NOT WANTED should be removed. What is the point of continuing to list their names, photos? The Police Chief should get his priorities straight.

Wow-I love the website! I just wanted to say that I really enjoy keeping up with Erma, Terrah, Terry, Helga, Bret & Shack! I look forward to the stories...Glad you decided to upgrade! :)

The site looks great so far. I was saddened to see it go down for awhile, so I then visited the Area Wide news site as I often to as well, and saw the changes there, and figured this one was just being reconstructed. I like the blog style very much as it enables us to get much more content, at our fingertips for free! Very nice!

Could anyone give the history of the Woodland Hills Subdivision in Hardy and the Hidden Valley Subdvision in Highland. People purchase lots over the internet from local realtors in these areas but as Mayor Norwood stated last week, many people do not know they are in the city of Highland, and I think the same thing applies to Hardy. Are improvements to roads, sewer, water and public ammenities available to these property owners in each of their respective cities ?

I am very curious, as I am purchasing 2 lots on Bittersweet in Highland, and one lot on Briarwood( now shown as Grafftin ) in Woodland Hills.

Any clarification on future development in either city-subdivision would be most appreciated.

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing in regards to the article in today's Villager Journal paper. The one inquiring as to what has happened to Ozark Acres. I am a resident of Ozark Acres and I have been for about four years now. My family and I love it here it is peaceful and quiet and we do have a police officer that patrols the area and he does a fine job at it I might add. Yes there is a little riff-raff here but there is not a place in the world that does not have that problem including Cherokee Village. I am not the argumentative type but if you want to talk about a riff-raff place Cherokee Village is another place you might check into. As far as Ozark Acres we have plenty of friendly people here. They keep the lake clean, the keep the ditches mowed, for goodness sake they just ran a new water system here. I love it here my neighbors are great. The offer Holiday dinners at the club house. This is not really a retirement community but it could be I do know of elderly people that are retired and do live here and to my knowledge they like it or they would leave. So I am sorry to the lady that took a small look at the bigger picture here. But you need to get all the facts straight before you start barking out improvement orders. This is a nice community we have here. My out of town family loves to come here and visit me and they never have any complaints. I would like this to be published if possible because I would like a chance to stand up for the Wonderful Community that I live in. We do not need the prayers of people we are doing just fine and dandy.

Thank You,

Alisha Smithson

Proud Resident of Ozark Acres

Alisha Smithson of Ozark Acres..... implying that my city of Cherokee Village is a "riff-raff place" is not only unfair, but uncalled for. Don't blame surrounding cities for Ozark Acres problems. You should be calling your City Hall, instead of trying to take the heat off OA by implying other communities have the same lax standards. In no way do the residents of CV want to be compared with Ozark Acres.

This is in response to Edna Baxter's article in the Villager paper. I am a resident of Ozark Acres and have been for 10 years. I am not "Riff Raff"' an alcoholic or poor.It is a very beautiful, quiet and peaceful place to live and raise families. We have 2 very nice lakes to swim in, fish in and just enjoy visiting with families and friends. My neighbors are all very nice people and do not cause any problems. We are all very proud of our community and take pride in it. I do not know where Mz Baxter's family lives, but I have never had any of the problems that she talked about. Mz Baxter we do not need you living here with your one sided views. I believe that as you do not like us, that is a blessing.

We are very fortunate to have Jesse Wells as our security. Can you imagine the "Riff Raff" that we would have if not for him? Jesse always looks out for the residents of Ozark Acres.

By the way, Mz Baxter, we do not need nor want your prayers. The Good Lord has already Blessed us as you do not live here.

What is going on with Highland High School new Sports Complex? As I drive by it going to and from work everyday I notice no progress. A year has gone by and October 10th is around the corner and our taxes will be due for the second time with the increased millage. I have 3 children going to school at Highland and an Alumni and also a supporter, and a sports fan of Highland, along with being a taxpayer. But do not see anything yet for what I'm paying for. I'm not one to stir up anything either, especially when I'm friends with the staff and board members of Highland but I'm sure I'm not the only one that is wondering. Nothing has been written in local media or announcements have been made in a while and I'm just curious. I don't know what the excuse is or even if there is one, but during the same time Cave City High School has built and almost finished building a complete brand new school. The Tornado that ripped through here in February demolished several businesses and are being agressively being rebuilt and almost completed and some are not. The last I remember hearing of the matter was waiting for nature to take it's course on compacting the ground and rumor about the water drainage problems. I did notice some activity, a truck dropping off some metal 2 weeks ago and a septic truck comming to the porta potty to drain it out which is probably not being used, but still costing $75.00 a month to sit there. I'm just a little dissapointed and was wondering, does anybody know anything at all and what the answers are?

Well, Well, Well, as soon as I wrote about the Highland Sports complex I have notice some activity going on, what a coincedence. Looks like a trailer(office) and a backhoe and some men were there this week, So this is positive and I hope it keeps up. We'll soon find out.

On May 21, 2008 as my wife and I were entering Hardy after a trip to Jonesboro, we notice the price sign for gasoline at the Shell station, I believe it was or is called the "White Oak Station", in Hardy advertising $3.799for regular gasoline, so we pulled in and I inserted my credit card and when I had filled up and got my receipt, I noticed that I had been charged $3.899 instead of $3.799, so I went inside to see what was going on. The man behind the counter informed me that the $3.799 was for cash only. I turned around and went out side to look at the sign, and sure enough in real small letters in did say "cash". I got my camera and took a picture of the sign. The next day I filed a complaint with the Attorney General's Office of the State of Arkansas because it is illegal to charge more for a credit card than you do for cash.

It was not really the 10 cents per gallon that irrated me, but it was the fact that what this station was doing is illegal. They are cheating unsuspecting customers that don't pay a lot of attention to what is going on. This station probably made thousands upon thousands of dollars by cheating us, the customers.

Everyone needs to take a look at that sign and boycott the station until they change their practice. I can assure they will when the Attorney General gets through with them. I also filed a complaint with the Arkansas Weights and Measure and told them what this station was doing. I believe that if they are capable of cheating the customer one way then they will also do it another way. We don't need dishonest service station dealers in this area. We are paying enough for our gasoline without them cheating us.

And by the way, on Kait8 news on Sunday evening of June 22, 2008 they told of some illegal things that some stations were doing nationwide, and they too said that what this station was doing was illegal.

It looks like the voters will get to decide if Sharp County gets to stay dry or will go wet. I hope that the county stays dry. I used to live in a wet county and did not like it, that is why I live in a dry county. There isn't a liquor store or beer joint on every corner or in every store. Let the people who wants to vote it wet move to a wet county. If they are really concerned about air pollution or the cost of fuel to make a alcohol run then they need to quit drinking.

I like the new layout of your website. As a former Hardy resident, I enjoy reading about the town I grew up in and dearly miss.

Jody,

Nice segment on lucid dreaming. I understand what you are talking about. Most people that I have talked to cannot do this or have ever even heard of it. Have you familiar with Stephen LaBerge? He researched lucid dreaming for his Ph. D at Stanford University and developed techniques to help himself and others enter the lucid dream state. He even has a lucidity institute that promotes research into lucid dreaming. One can even attend a lecture that he hosts as well as a lucid dreaming session from the jedi lucid dreamer himself.

I have to admit, I like the Villager Journal of late. Gone are the Republican columnists bashing the Democrats, Liberals, etc. Recently added to the weekly paper are the "Records" of arrests of the nearby counties, Sharp, Fulton, Izard, and Horseshoe Bend City Court Docket. This information tell's me what really is happening in our neck of the woods. Some readers may only want to read about the "good news", but we need to know how the "dark side" is living. Thank You Ms. Harris.

It is a shame, I have been living in sharp county for some time now, and every year it seems to get worse. There al teenagers doing drugs, drinking illegally, driving recklessly, smoking while underage, and starting fights. I get so sick and tired when those kids just walk away clean, and other people get in trouble by the cops just for driving 5mph too fast.

Why do they not get busted? Why do they walk away clean? Why is it that they keep doing it when they are aware it will hurt them? Why is not harming them in any way? I have stayed away from the stuff all my life, and I seem to be the one getting the short end of the stick. They are all set and ready to go to college to pursue their career, yet I am left out and alone.

I am sick of going to a class everyday and listening to them talk of how they all got stoned last night and got away clean, or how they all had a party and were left hung over the next morning. Meanwhile, the police are bothering with people going a little too fast, or dropping a candy wrapper and missing the trash can. Where is the justice!!?

A concerned student,

I am a teenager who has never did any kind of drug

s, drank any kind of alcohol, never been in a fight, never been arrested, never stole anything in my life. I have never been in any trouble with the law. I am respectfull of all living thing's, human and not. But my so called 'CHRISTAIN DOCTOR' refuses to see me because of a piece of jewelry, And this SO CALLED CHRISTAIN DOCTOR also decided he didn't like the looks of my brother either. The GOOD CHRISTAIN DOCTOR told us it would be easier for the both of us to go to a different doctor. After being our family doctor for 8 years. Oh yes, the reason he will no longer see my brother is because he has pierced ears. He also has never drank or has NEVER DID DRUGS,or been in any kind of trouble with the law. But still because of our looks, THIS LOCAL CHRISTAIN doctor will not see us. We have never did anything wrong in his office or been disrespectful to him or any of his staff. But still he pasted judgement on innocent people IT IS NOT HIS PLACE TO PASS JUDGEMENT ON ANYONE. I thought he took an oath to help people not HURT THEM.

Sharp County, Fulton County, and Cherokee Village Residents,

We have a new blog that was started back in May 2008 to help Cherokee Village residents and visitors learn more about Cherokee Village from those who live in the area part or full time, or visit occassionally.

When we first thought about purchasing property in Cherokee Village several years ago, we did find a few places online for gathering information on the area. Yet, we couldn't find one website that you could go to as a one stop shop for all the information we needed in order to learn as much about Cherokee Village as we possibly could. Today, yes, there are more places online to find information about Cherokee Village, but we still have not been able to find that "one stop shop".

That is our goal here and the idea behind CherokeeVillageAR.net.

www.cherokeevillagear.net

www.cherokeevillagear.net/forum

Slowly, but surely, we intend to grow this website and forum into a "must visit" website if you are considering to visit, to vacation, to purchase a property, to move here permanently, or if you are already a resident.

We hope this informational website will join visitors, residents, out of town property owners, and people interested in learning more about the area, to compile and trade information, questions, and experiences about this beautiful place in northern Arkansas dear to many of us.

WE ARE NOT SELLING ANYTHING. (however, there is a free classifieds area for you to post on)

Let us build this forum into an online encyclopedia of information about everything you ever wanted or needed to know about Cherokee Village, Arkansas.

What better way to do that than from the real life experiences of those who post questions and answers here?

There is also a section devoted to Sharp and Fulton Counties, Ash Flat, Highland, and Hardy.

If you want to add your two cents on a new discussion board or if you have questions yourself, join in.

Enjoy the blog and forum. We hope you find the information you are seeking.

Just coming back to say I'm still loving this new website, but have a question for your consideration. Would it be possible to make it so that comments can be added to the records/obituaries section so that readers can leave their congratulations or condolences? I think that would be a very nice feature appreciated by the families.

I have read the article in The Village about the high crime rate in Cherokee Village over the past few months.

I feel that part of the problem is NO ONE is being held accountable for the problem.

When you have police officers being seen all over the county and not in the Village. I've seen then on the other side of Hardy, the Evening Shade side of Ash Flat and darn near in Salem. Not being in the community they are paid to protect is the first problem.

Another question, Why are the citizens of CV having to pay for officers doing personal errands in city vehicles? On Aug.11th at 6:30 Rick Morris in gym shorts and t-shirt was in Wal-Mart doing his personnal shopping. He comes out and gets into that new Dodge Charger owned by the city. I don't understand why the city needed the car in the first place( Way to much car for the area.) but now we are paying for the gas these guys use to do personal errands.

I have a problem with the unprofessional way they act and the fact that there isn't anyone to make these guys tow the line.

It's time for the GOOD OL' Boys to act professional ALL OF THEM, Starting with the Chief.

If Chief Goodwin has a problem with one of his officers should he not be the one held accountable?

And if the problem is the Chief then the Mayor should be held accountable.

We as citizens need to come together on an issue that effects all of us.

During a meeting of Townhouse owners a bit of important information was given to those were in attendance.

If you call the Cherokee Village Police Department at the 257-5225 number it's answered by someone in the office it's not a recorded or logged call. And if it's after 3:30 in the afternoon your call is forwarded to a cell phone carried by the "on duty" officer.

So if you a call to the police department there is no way to prove there was a call (Unless you call after 3:30 and have a copy the cell phone records),when the call was placed and how long the officer took to respond if they respond at all. However if you call 911 or the Sheriff's Dispatch number at 994-2211 the calls are logged and the dispatcher sends the officer.

I would suggest to the citizens of Cherokee Village to call 911 ( Emergancy calls only) or the Sheriff's office Dispatch center.

At least this way there is a record that you called the police. And it gives you have some recourse for bad policing or in a lot of cases NO policing.

If we as citizens stand together maybe our rate of crime would go up 47% in one month.

-- Posted by spitfire on Thu, Aug 14, 2008, at 11:51 AM

It seems someone was paying attention.

It's been brought to my attention that the police departments after hours phone is now forwarded to the dispatch center when you call the Cherokee police number atfer 3:30 PM.

That's a step in the right direction.

Let's see how long it lasts.

-- Posted by spitfire on Sat, Aug 23, 2008, at 11:13 AM

I see the Journal is printing press releases from the McCain For President committee. The current issue has a Letter To The Editor from someone in Champaign, Ill that was supposedly sent to a local Village resident. Editor Harris, did you verify this piece of fiction writing? I really doubt you called Champaign, Ill for its authenticity, and if you did, why in the world are we publishing letters from Illinois, and verbatim at that. A half page devoted to this one letter. That was ridiculous.

The people who work at the Dept.of Motor Vehicle Divison in Sharp County is about as friendly as a Den of RATTLE SNAKES. They are rude when you are there in person, But they are just plain NASTY RUDE over the phone. To be talked to like you are dirt,is just not right. These people work with the public on a daily base's. How do they keep their job? Asking a simple question like "when is the test given to minor's for a driver's permit' I have gotten three (3) different answers. And i still don't know when the test is given. Maybe you could help me out and find out. Because those people there, act like they don't even know.THANK YOU.

Hardy's Parks - Poor action since the flood has left the city of Hardy parks looking terrible. Playgrounds unusable, baseball field gone. What is the hold up and atleast making these areas look presentable, LIKE CUTTING THE GRASS. Some of the playground items only need MULCH to make them ready for children to play on again.

Is the city of Hardy waiting on FUNDS FROM FEMA, I would think photo's and documentaion would be enough to show the damage, but to leave it is very sad for the TOURIST and VISITORS to the spring river area of Hardy.

Were is the MAYOR of HARDY???? Action is needed or this town will loose even more revenue from tourist and that is BAD FOR BUSINESS and BAD FOR THE ECONOMY of HARDY !!!!!!

I`d just like to let everyone know about the business tactics of a business in your area that we recently had dealings with. We rented a home on the lake from Southern Pines Realty for six days. We checked in and stayed for one night and got a call from home that our precious 7 week old grandaughter had died completely unexpectedly. We tried getting in contact with someone from Southern Pines to let them know what was going on with no success. We finally got in touch the next morning after driving 10 hours back home and were told," sorry our policy is no refunds, you read the contract and signed off on it." It`s hard for me to believe that the people of that business could be so cruel and heartless. We stayed one night and had to pay for 6 and according to the VRBO website where we found the place, they rented it for 3 of the nights that we`d already paid for, and if that`s the case they got paid twice for 3 of the nights. We called the people in Eureka Springs where we had another place rented for the last 3 nights of our vacation and when we told her what was going on she refunded our money immediately. I certainly hope that not everyone in your community have the same morals and business tactics of these people. There comes a time that compassion for your fellow man should come before money and greed. Evidently thay haven`t learned this valuble lesson in life. We`d appreciate anyone that agrees with us to contact Southern Pines Realty and let them know how you feel about this matter.

Thanks !

Frank Shipley Jr.

To Frank Shipley Jr. I am so very sorry for your loss. We moved to C.V.Ar. on (here say) about how beautiful it is here. It might be beautiful here, But the people are some of the most GREEDIEST, UNCARING, SNOB'S, i have ever had the unpleasure to meet. The businesses are all very happy to sell you something. But very unwilling or just too GREEDY, to give any one a refund. Most of the business owners here is like that. But they all call their selves Christains. I too have lost a loved one recently (son) It was a very horrible loss to us. We are moving out of this so called GOD'S country as soon as we can. I am not a business owner, nor would i want to be in the same catagory as them. My heart goes out to you and your family.

Just because some of us have found a better place is no reason to go off the deep end, ole buddy. How many members did you kick off lately?

Some of your current members keep in touch with me. It's always nice to catch up with them. Through the grapevine I hear dual membership is a growing trend.

Sincerely,

Your Ex Member Paul

Mr. Shipley and Granny of 5.

WOW! I'm in the business sector of the Cherokee Village and let me say that your experience is the exception.

I have been in Arkansas for over eight years and have found that while on occasion I have found a rudy person that is not the case for the most part. I hate that the company you rented from showed no compassion for your loss. But please do not judge all of the real estate companies by this one.

The people of this area are warm hearted and more than willing to help in a time of need.

I would ask that you return to our part of the country and give someone else a chance to show you just how much we have to offer and what a great community Cherokee Village is to visit and to live in.

Mr. Shipley, I have a new grandbaby and I feel for your loss.

Granny of five, maybe you need to revisit your actions and see if what you experienced was a reaction to your attitude.

I know that we are not perfect but we are not greedy, uncaring, snobs.

-- Posted by spitfire on Thu, Sep 4, 2008, at 12:06 PM

To spitfire, You sound like a realtor yourself. And if the reactions i get IS because of my attitude. I got this attitude from people like YOU.GREEDY, UNCARING, SNOBS.

-- Posted by grannyof 5 on Thu, Sep 4, 2008, at 6:33 PM

Grannyof5.

No one gives you your attitude. It's a personal choice that you make.

I wish you the best in leaving the area.

The sooner the better for those of us that love

it here.

You seem to have some type of fastidious problem.

-- Posted by spitfire on Sat, Sep 6, 2008, at 10:53 AM

spitfire, Look back in speakout. You are the one that is complaining and saying how bad it is around Cherokee Village, You are the one that criticized the police department, The only people that keep C.V. a safe place to live. If you think you can do a better job than the officers who are trained for protecting the people of C.V. than do it. OR KEEP YOUR COMPLAINING TO YOURSELF. I said most of the bussiness owners, i did NOT say ALL of them. I agreed with Mr.Shipley concerning Southern Pines Realty. Not all realtors. King Rhodes has the best and friendliest realtors that anyone could ever ask for. They not only go out of their way to help a person, they are perceptive of your needs and help beyond renting or buying a home. It sure seems like you should be running C.V. Since no one else seems to do it to your satisfaction. Maybe if people like you would STOP instigating the problems you think C.V. has. People like me would stop getting treated badly by the GREEDY, UNCARING, SNOBS that live here.

Finally, observed some deer since my return to the Village. I was beginning to believe they nearly eradicated the offending varmits. At what point (number killed) does this mean the thinning was successful? As the study was never done, and the season will not end until Jan 31st, how does the public know everything went as planned, and an over-killing of the deer population was not initiated?

Is there such a thing as killing too many deer during this urban hunt?

Just curious, since City Hall has left the residents in the dark on how this thing was supposed to end, successfully....
