Call to Community ActionPosted Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 9:46 AM
I am amazed at the amount of animals coming into the shelter at this time of year and the need for food and supplies is foremost in our minds again!
If you can afford to donate money, dog or cat food, canned and dry, it would certainly help to keep our charges fed and healthy. We always need collars and leashes, food dishes, plastic bins/refuse containers (with lids if possible) for storage of rags, medical supplies, etc. Other items needed are laundry soap (powder or liquid), cleaning items and disinfectants, flea and tick dips, shampoos, small area rugs, blankets, towels, etc. - anything to keep pet areas clean and comfortable. Also, any pet carrier, metal cages for transport, as well as shredded newspapers for the cat and kitten cages will be appreciated. We will accept your soda cans brought in in trashbags for recycling to generate a little bit more in funds needed for medications. We need volunteers who will commit to at least one 2-3 hour shift at the shelter to help clean, water and feed animals and kennels. We need dog walkers who can help getting our dogs used to collars and leashes and help socialize animals who have not had a whole lot of human contact to make them more adoptable and able to fit into a new home. And last, but not least - we need building supplies and donated labor to help rehab some of the buildings on the grounds so we can house the cats and kittens separately from the dogs and establish a quarantine area so animals can be checked for disease and kept out of the general population until they are cleared and found to be fit and healthy. So now, here comes the least: Please come and visit and see if any of the beautiful animals we have can have a new home with you! Adoption fees are very low, and we give a $25 gift certificate toward spay and neuter. Address and hours at the shelter are: 1531 Hwy 289 North (across from the IESI Landfill entrance); hours are 10-2 Mon-Sat. We would so appreciate seeing you! |
