With summer heat blowing in like gangbusters and no air-conditioning at the shelter, we are "begging" for these items to make days more sufferable for the animals:

Fans and window air conditioners, kiddie pools, and 2x4 welded wire/dog wire plus 5-5 1/2' T-posts. We also need more garden hoses, 5 gallon buckets and patio umbrellas, as well as the green shade cloths (which are perforated with tiny air holes) to cover the outdoor kennels for more shade.

Thank any and all of you who will search your properties for anything that might help us maintain a good shelter for the animals who have already been through quite an ordeal! Just yesterday, we took in a puppy mill rescue with a perforated eye and injuries to its legs. Most of the animals which we pick up and even those which are surrendered are flea and tick infested and require much care.

One of our buildings is currently being renovated to provide an area for the cats (they are currently housed in the dog shelter); the other half of the building (former barns) will be set up as a quarantine area for all new intakes. There, animals will be checked for fleas, ticks, temperature, eye infections, injuries, mange, etc. They will receive dips, puppy shots and kennel cough medicine and will stay in quarantine until we are sure they are healthy and well enough to go to the "general population" in the dog and cat shelter areas.
