SPRING RIVER ANIMAL SERVICES THANKS COMMUNITY FOR GENEROUS OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT!Posted Monday, June 16, 2008, at 11:03 AM
Our recent event in front of Walmart proves again what a great community we live in! Not only did we place 10 animals into new homes over the two-day period, but we received a respectable amount of pet supplies and donations. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT! A SPECIAL THANKS TO MIKE ALEXANDER AND HIS EMPLOYEES AT WALMART WHO FURNISHED CANOPIES (SO WE WERE "IN THE SHADE") AND HUGE PLASTIC BUCKETS WITH WATER FOR THE ANIMALS! WE APPRECIATE WALMART FOR LETTING US HAVE OUR DRIVE OUTSIDE THE STORE ON SUCH A BUSY WEEKEND! While all of you came out in the 100+ degree heat to see our animals and drop much needed items in the donation box, I sat in the air-conditioned Spring River Animal Services office manning the phones and helping to take care of the pets left behind. So when I saw our volunteers coming back sunburnt, parched, and exhausted - well, I felt a twinge of guilt about staying cool all day. Kudos go to Shorlyn Morris, our Animal Control Officer who often sacrifices her weekends "for the cause" and the many volunteers who deserve special recognition for braving the heat to help get so many animals adopted: Angie Myal, John Murray, Jennifer and Sandy Summerdyke, and Laurie Dunn (and I hope I didn't leave anyone out!). Thanks also to our volunteers who take care of the animals at the shelter in their free time and who never fail to show up to help: Cheryl Marshall, Chuck Galinis, John and Lorraine Murray, JoAnn Walker, and Dolly Hopkins. These hardworking animal lovers, activists, and rescuers deserve so much praise for their passion and dedication to the animals in our temporary care! All of us who volunteer at the shelter come away feeling like we are doing something worthwhile although the "job" is often not glamourous at all; however, the satisfaction derived from seeing a neglected, hurt and abused animal find a good home with folks who value God's creatures as much as we do - that's all that counts! So again, thank you for making our event a success! Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I live south of Hardy and someone has dropped off a cat that is going to have kittens any day. We are allergic to cats! She won't leave so can I bring her to this shelter ????? I also have items to donate that my dog does not need anylonger.
Dear Cherokee Lady -
Unfortunately, Hardy, Highland, and Ash Flat have not joined our Animal Control efforts and we are only allowed to take animals from Cherokee Village and Ozark Acres (partners in this effort so far). As soon as these communities join in the cost and upkeep of the shelter and animals, we will be able to take strays from these areas. We are so overcrowded with cats and kittens from Cherokee Village and Ozark Acres right now that we are stacking them up in pet kennels 2 and 3 high in the office until there is room in the kennel area or we will find homes for them.
We welcome all donations from anyone to help feed and keep our animals until they find a permanent home. Our location is 1531 Hwy 289N (across from the IESI entrance) and hours are from 10-2 Mon-Sat.
Thank you for inquiring!
