....I know! Not the real McCoy! But that's what one of our volunteers thought was the perfect name for this 8 month old Tibetan Terrier Mix. She should know - she bathed and groomed him and got him a respectable look for the camera! Fonzie and another smaller white West Highland Terrier and Poodle mix were found out in the woods with fleas and ticks all over them. They sure cleaned up nice though!

I am going to feature some of our animals in this blog in the future because folks, we are filled to the brim with lots of puppies and kittens, not to mention older cats and dogs who have been surrendered for various reasons or were abandoned and found in desperate need of help.

We sometimes have purebred animals who have not had a good lot in life or have gotten lost while families were vacationing here.

Currently, our adoption fee is only $10.00. Animals will require rabies shots (generally around $12) and are required to be spayed or neutered if they aren't already. Fees vary depending on the vet clinic performing these surgeries. Low cost spay and neuter clinics are held several times throughout the year at various locations in our area. We have these dates available. The City of Cherokee Village offers a $25 voucher toward the spay and neuter fees at local vet offices.

So, I encourage you to come and visit Spring River Animal Services from Monday thru Saturday. We are located at 1531 Hwy 289 North, down the road from Drs. Bob and Kathy Mills' location and across the street from the IESI Landfill. Our hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

We ask you to stop by the office to the right of the drive first to announce your visit and have a volunteer or the Animal Control Officer accompany you to the kennels to tell you about the adoptable animals we have and how they may fit into your individual family situation.

Some cats are indoor cats only, most are outdoor cats. Some dogs don't get along with cats, others do. Some of our pets have special needs and we need to know that they will be met by the adoptive parent(s).

So, please let us give you a tour of our facility and animals when you come out and check back to villageronline.com to see another one of our great pets looking for a home!

After a lifelong career in administrative support services for various corporations, translator/interpreter for US Army Forces in Europe, Century 21 Realtor and running a successful landscaping business with her husband in Texas, Helga and husband Robert retired to Cherokee Village five years ago. The last two years she was mostly confined to her home and hospitals (she is a two-time cancer survivor) and after having been declared well on her way to recovery, she found her new niche in life: Helping a budding but struggling local animal shelter get as many animals adopted as possible, educating the public about the needs of the shelter and working closely with community organizations and the public to raise funds, promote spay and neuter programs and responsible pet ownership.
