I actually made it through the busy weekend without sliding off the plan. It was hectic and I noticed myself getting a few headaches. I didn't feel hungry but after I ate a bit the headaches eased up. They say to eat something about every three hours. I can see how you need to in order to keep the blood sugar up.

The birthday party was fun and I didn't feel deprived at all. I divided my plate as directed and ended up eating all vegetables except for a tablespoon of potato salad. My husband and I shared a small piece of birthday cake, so, I think that was a success.

My daughter-in-law gave me a great idea -- especially good for evenings in front of a TV. She said to freeze the blueberries and eat them that way. They're really good and seems to satisfy the habit I have of wanting to eat something in the evenings. Another daughter-in-law said to do the same thing with grapes, but I haven't tried that yet.

A cup of hot water with a bouillon cube is another hunger eliminator for me. You can also add some vegetables to it if you want, and you have a free food soup.

My exercise was a wash-out this weekend. Too busy on Saturday and woke up to rain on Sunday. The treadmill just sat there staring at me and I just kept staring at it. I get bored real fast on the treadmill so it will take some encouragement to keep getting on it. Maybe it'll stay beautiful and cool so my dog and I can walk in the evenings.

I still feel and look overweight, but I'm beginning to notice a few changes in the way I look at food. I think dividing the plate into sections makes more sense than anything I've heard. And, it's easy to follow. My husband is using that as a guide and has added protein shakes to his daily menu. Knowing him, he'll lose weight 5-times faster than I will, but then, he has a whole lot more to lose than I do so guess it's OK.

I just realized I forgot to eat my salad for lunch. The good thing about that is I can eat it anytime today I want. I like this plan. And .... the lemon cake and chocolate cake are absolutely wonderful! Later ....

Day ONE
Posted Friday, August 8, at 1:58 PM

8-8-08 -- Day 1: I did my measurements -- bust, waist, abdomen and hips and stepped on the scales to record my OFFICIAL weight. How depressing! For the first time in my life I have an impressive bust size and it's all fat. And, what's worse, my stomach and hips are so much bigger, my bustline is lost in this strange-looking silhouette. I'm just glad I didn't take these measurements before I lost the 12 pounds. I really don't want to know what they were back then...

The food arrives
Posted Friday, August 8, at 11:57 AM

8-7-08 -- Thursday: My food arrived today (straight to my door) and almost everything sounds pretty good. I don't care for the shelf-stable pre-packaged foods, so almost all of my entrees are frozen. There are pizzas, muffins, cheesecake, chocolate cake, mac & cheese, broccoli & cheese, stuffed potato and a whole lot more. ...

Getting ready
Posted Friday, August 8, at 11:56 AM

8-6-08 -- Wednesday: I spent today cleaning out my refrigerator, freezer and cabinets. Some things got thrown away and others were sent downstairs to the freezer -- out of sight, out of mind. My husband was informed (nicely) that I was doing Jenny Craig for a month and he was going to be participating in an "alternative eating style." He wasn't quite sure what that was (neither was I, but I didn't want to tell him he was going on a diet) but he was willing to go along with my plan. ...

Why am I doing this?
Posted Friday, August 8, at 11:55 AM

When I turned 50 I started gaining weight for the first time in my life. Not a few pounds of vanity fat but 30 pounds, gained over a short period of time. In February of this year, I reached my highest weight EVER -- even when I was pregnant I didn't weigh anywhere near this amount...
