8-8-08 -- Day 1:
I did my measurements -- bust, waist, abdomen and hips and stepped on the scales to record my OFFICIAL weight. How depressing! For the first time in my life I have an impressive bust size and it's all fat. And, what's worse, my stomach and hips are so much bigger, my bustline is lost in this strange-looking silhouette. I'm just glad I didn't take these measurements before I lost the 12 pounds. I really don't want to know what they were back then.
I had a great breakfast. It was an English muffin with egg and turkey, although it tasted like Canadian bacon to me. I didn't want the yogurt after eating the breakfast sandwich, so I saved it and ate it later in the morning. Really wasn't hungry. I was suppose to have a special protein-type bar for a morning snack -- but I forget to put it in my bag before I left the house this morning. That wasn't such a great start since it has all these wonderful vitamins and minerals I need.
About mid-morning a lady from Jenny Craig called to make sure I had received the food and to go over the program with me. Her name was Nancy, but my personal coach (who was sick today) is Nicole. She is the one who will be calling me each week to encourage me to stick with my goals.
Nancy gave me a lot of great advice and answered several questions I already had. One question was what I'm suppose to do tomorrow when I go to my grandson Nathan's 8th birthday party -- complete with hamburgers, hotdogs and TWO birthday cakes. I love this suggestion: Take your plate (only one) and divide it into sections with one half and two quarters. Fill the half section with vegetables and fruit, and the two quarter sections are to be used for protein and starch (meat and birthday cake). You have to make it fit and you can't use the half side for birthday cake, ONLY fruits and vegetables. I think I can do that and I won't feel deprived. I'll let you know how that goes. Hope the paper plates are big.
Nancy was really helpful and encouraging and left me with a good feeling when I hung up. She is 49 and a Jenny Craig survivor, so she knows where I'm at and where I'm headed in the days to come. Again, it was like talking to a friend.
I just finished lunch and I am full. (Did you know it takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain you are full? So, slow down -- don't eat so fast!) I had a pizza which my husband would have hated. It was OK, kind of tasty, but did not have any meat on it. My husband would have prefered eating a piece of cardboard. But, truthfully, it wasn't bad. I also had a great salad of cukes, yellow squash, onions and tomatoes with ranch dressing. That tasted great. I also drank a V-8 juice before I ate my lunch, so I felt half-way full before I began.
The rest of the day, as well as this weekend, will be hectic. A ball game tonight; a gymnastic show in the morning; and a birthday party at noon. Plus, if my grandson's team wins tonight, there may be another ball game tomorrow evening. One thing Nancy stressed this morning was that WHEN you eat is flexible. That's a good thing. I certainly don't want to plan my life around eating.
So, that's it for now. If you started with the first blog and have read them down to here, you should be pretty tired of reading about me. I'll stop for today and catch you up on Monday. My plans for the next month are to update you on my success and failures on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You absolutely want to keep checking back because SOON we'll have a contest (no weight-loss involved) you are going to want to enter. Just keep reading and commenting. Don't make me do this alone. I'm not very good at this weight-loss stuff. |
