Crowds pick up at WPMS

Posted Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at 9:17 PM

The crowd is growing at the West Plains Motor Speedway and you can't complain about the weather. Once again the competition was incredible and the cruiser class was a great example. Tyler Newcom of Hardy has two in a row and not with out some competition from Bozo in the 00 El Camino, and a big crash on the front straightway that sent Rhonda Gunter of Moody to the Hospital, and a black flag for the Rage'n Cajun. That was just the beginning of the regular features, and Dakota Frost did win another youth hobby feature. The Hobby Feature went to John Stiner, but not without a ton of competition from the field that included 4 lead changes. The Super Stock race has been so competitive and it looked like it might be another win for Stan Ellison, but it was not meant to be and Bobby Bryant did get it done with Carman Vincent in 3rd but never more than 4 car lengths to the rears.

Billy James was back in town with the Fastraks and won again and Kyle Berry kept it kind of close, but the exciting part of the late model feature was last weeks feature winner, Jacob Black, and points leader Jeff McGee as they ran side by side for the final 15 laps.

But most exciting was the modified feature, and a first time ever feature win for Moody's own Lonnie Judd. Judd lead most of the 20 laps by about 100 yards and a late race caution made it look like his party was about to be spoiled. But the #10 modified held on to the end and virtually everyone was celebrating the victory for Lonnie.

This week is the final Late Model Special of the season and the Show me

Racing series will be in town for the Fall Nationals sponsored by Colton's Steakhouse. Any questions go to www.westplains-speedway.com for prices and details.

Thanks also to Cockrum Auto Sales for last weeks race.
