Highland is no closer to having a franchise agreement with cable provider Charter Communications, even after a lengthy discussion on the subject at the Aug. 12 city council meeting. More than 70,000 Arkansans have yet to claim their economic stimulus checks and Rep. Marion Berry is encouraging Arkansans to file a tax return before the deadline, even if they don't normally file a return. Everyone must file a 2007 tax return by Oct. 15 in order to receive the rebate check. Individuals can receive up to $600 per individual, $1,200 per married couple and an additional $300 for each child...

After six years of deliberation and many denied bids, Hardy will finally begin construction on a new firehouse annex. "It's time to get it built if we're going to do it," Hardy Mayor Nina Thornton said. Photo Terrah Baker A semi-truck driven by a native of Michigan ran down an embankment and ended up on the railroad tracks in the early hours of July 31. According to the driver, he was driving at a normal and safe speed but the lightness of his empty trailer and the slick roads led the trailer to jack knife and the truck to tumble off the highway. Although the train tracks were temporarily closed, no one was injured in the accident...
