Making the fair buildings more comfortable would increase attendance at fair (08/21/08)
We went to the county fair this summer. It was HOT! We didn't tarry long in the business and services building and didn't stay too long in the exhibits. There weren't many people around in either building. The fans moved only hot air. The produce, brought in to exhibit in their prime, lay limp, the workers looked drained...
Everyone should find out about the Arkansas Castle Doctrine Crime Bill (08/21/08)
On March 23, 2005, the Florida Senate passed SB-436, the "Castle Doctrine" unanimously by a vote of 39 yays to zero nays. They know something about this bill. On April 5, the Florida House passed SB436, "Castle Doctrine" by a vote of 94 yays to 20 nays, a margin of better than four to one...
Voter says, a wet county will change the quality of life available now in SC (08/21/08)
The issue is not whether drinking alcoholic beverages is wrong or right. It is about sustaining the quality of life we now enjoy in Sharp County. What does a wet Sharp County spell for our future? A -- is for the aftermath of destruction that always follows in the wake of the victimization of the blameless, as those lives are claimed by careless acts of drunken drivers...
Hold that thought: Theories and practices of positive thinking (08/14/08)
Believe it or not, it is possible for a group of people to have a major influence on an event when they have the same thought. The influence can be positive -- or negative, depending on the thought process. Building a new hospital in the Village may be accomplished if we truly believe it can be done. The more people who hold this belief, the easier it will be to succeed...
Respect for man is based on many things (08/14/08)
A few years ago, an earnest and idealistic young graduate asked me about his future being a police officer, because most people do not like the police, you know -- at one time or another we've all felt powerless to explain or correct our situation, and then, through a lack of communication skills we'll end up paying or doing somehow, enduring the wrath...
Have compassion, stop if you hit an animal (08/14/08)
I would like to reiterate that Cherokee Village is known for having a lot of deer and that they're "everywhere." To the person that was driving on Cherokee Road on Saturday, Aug. 2 in the morning; between the Baseheart Fire Station and the golf course low water bridge. ...
If you really want a local hospital -- get involved (08/14/08)
"We need a local hospital," is constantly being heard. Don't expect it to appear one morning by magic. YOU have to do something about it. The land is available next to the clinic. Thus far, White River Medical Center in Batesville has been very cooperative...

How You Voted - he minimum wage just increased by 30 cents an hour. Do you think employers should be REQUIRED to raise EVERYONE'S wages each time the minimum wage increases?
Where the heart really is (08/07/08)
Religion itself is a very touchy subject with most people and an area I don't like debating. I'll tell you what I believe if you want to hear it, but I'll leave the debate to my husband who lives for such an opportunity. Prayer is an important part of my life and probably is with most people. Prayer has helped me through many tough decisions and brings a peace to me when nothing else can...
Wake up America -- it's time to take action (08/07/08)
I don't know why we are wasting our time and money to elect a new president. We are under a dictatorship government already. The congressmen and senators that "We the People" elected to represent us, can no longer represent us. Both Houses have submitted new Energy Bills, to be debated and voted on. DFL, Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, and DFL, Speaker of The House, Nancy Pelosi, have both tabled these Bills and won't even bring them up for debate...

How You Voted -- Should a planning and zoning officer carry a concealed weapon on duty?
Let's never go back to the way things use to be (07/31/08)
I feel compelled to submit a public thank you to Shorlyn Morris, our animal control officer who is in charge of Spring River Animal Services, our local animal shelter. I'm very impressed with the caliber of professionalism she and her team of volunteers display. My thanks go out to her and the team of volunteers that give so freely of their time, hard work and love to make "our" shelter a success...
