Fast start helps Spring River

Thursday, July 3, 2008
On June 19, senior softball teams from Jonesboro and Trumann came to town to do battle with the Spring River team.

In the first game, Spring River got off to a fast start but Jonesboro kept close behind. Pat "Scoop" LaFaye led the defense in stopping several Jonesboro chances. He got help from the "Tuna" on another highlight-type of double play. Jim Drozd hit a solo home run. Spring River wins 19-11.

In game two, Spring River scored first and then the bats died. The Trumann bats came alive and Spring River had some defensive breakdowns which allowed Trumann to have some big innings, resulting in a 18-10 loss for Spring River.

Spring River's Hillary Mangrum got a hit in this game. It's worth the price of a Cardinal admission ticket to see the grin on Hillary's face when he gets a hit. He may be heard saying, "I got my hit, boys."
