This was a low-scoring game and it looked like a mightier team wanted to win this one. Dan Hedrington hit a three-run homer and also made a great line drive catch at first base.
Joe Bonds used his jackrabbit speed to add to his homerun total. Bill Stuart made some good catches at third base, but at the end of the game, the scoreboard read Jonesboro 10, Spring River 8.
In game two, it was another low-scoring contest. "Scoop" LaFaye played with his usual good defense. He teamed up with "Easy" Ed Snyder on a couple of double plays. "Easy" Ed also had a couple of defensive gems to add to his collection. Tony Clemente made a diving catch at third base with the bases loaded and nobody out.
Rick Comer made a catch in left and fired the ball to Clemente at third to double off the runner and stop a Truman rally. The quiet man, Dennis Brake, made a few good catches in short right field.
A triple by Dave Keylor was the game-winning hit and Spring River beat Truman 10-8.
Herb Hess pitched both games.
