Charges filed after car crash

Thursday, July 10, 2008

Three people were cited after a one-car crash in Cherokee Village June 28.

Rochelle Ratliff, 17, of Ash Flat was driving a 2005 Mazda MZ6 south on Okmulgee Drive around 12:20 a.m. when the car left the right side of the road, said Office Monte Lane. Ratliff then overcorrected which caused the vehicle to cross into the left lane. The car then traveled down an embankment and struck a tree, the accident report said.

Ratliff was transported to White River Medical Center by a parent, the report said.

Ratliff was cited for careless driving. Passengers Derek Chapps and Shawn Hooks were both charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Chapps was also charged with public intoxication, Sgt. Ric Morris said.

A Newport man was injured in a motorcycle crash in Cherokee Village June 29.

Paul Horn, 44, was driving his 2008 Honda motorcycle north on Pottawattamie Drive near Pahvanto Circle around 5:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, said Officer Steven Rose. The motorcycle then left the west side of the road, struck a road sign and slid to a stop, the accident report said.

Horn was transported to White River Medical Center in Batesville by Spring River Paramedic Ambulance Service.

The motorcycle was disabled and had to be towed from the scene.

Tch, why is it this place is filled to the brim with drunk and reckless drivers, and I rarely read any paper of them getting in trouble.

When I do, all they recieve is a slap on the hand. I can't stand it when people pretty much walk out of this crap with just injury's and a minor lawsuit.
