Lusk named to Library Board

Jan Lusk was born and raised in Hardy. She has always loved to read and enjoyes books, which is much of the reason she will make a great addtion to the Sharp County Library Board.

Lusk said when she was young the Hardy Library was in the basement of the Old Hardy Gym. She lived just across from the gym, so every chance she got she was in the library.

"I used to go in there on hot summer days and just sit all day and read," Lusk said. "But, not just in the summer, every chance I got."

Now a resident of Ash Flat, Lusk was appointed to serve on the library board to represent Ash Flat. "I was honored when (Sharp County) Judge (Larry) Brown called to ask me to serve," she said.

Lusk has been a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution for 25 years and a member of the Timely Club for over 20 years. She currently teaches vocational business at Highland High School.

Prior to teaching at Highland, Lusk taught at Evening Shade. She earned her masters degree in business education at Arkansas State University (ASU), as well as her English certification.

Lusk, among others, was nominated for the library board. Lusk was appointed in March and attended her first meeting in April.

"At this point, I need to sit back and gain an understanding of how they've (the library board) been working," Lusk said. "I just want to help in any way I can, whatever I can do for everyone, that's my goal."

I know Jan will do a good job. Have known her for years especially when she lived 2 houses down from me. I know she will make the right decisions and she will keep things on the right track. Libraries are becoming a thing of the past with the internet being so well used now, but we still need to keep up our Libraries and they should still be used by all. There is nothing better than picking up a book and using your imagination.
