The recent overdose of a Sharp County infant has led to the arrest of 22-year-old Crystal Williams of Cherokee Village on three felony counts.
On May 4, Sharp County Detective Mark Counts was contacted by Fulton County Police Chief Albert Roork about an infant who had been brought to the Fulton County Hospital as a result of a morphine overdose. Because the parent lived in Sharp County, Counts began the investigation into the incident.
As a result of the investigation, Williams was arrested May 20 by Sharp County Detectives Mark Counts and Ken Guidry on three felony warrants from Truman District Court.
Williams is charged with introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another, a class Y felony, endangering the welfare of a minor, a class D felony and possession of a controlled substance (morphine), a class C felony.
The mother had given the child morphine orally while in Trumann on May 3 and then travelled back to Cherokee Village. The next morning she took the 5-week-old infant to the Fulton County Hospital in Salem for treatment. The child was then transferred to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock where the baby was administered Narcan to reverse the effects of the narcotic.
The infant was released from Children's on May 7 to Arkansas Department of Human Services custody.
Williams is being held in the Poinsett County jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bond.

That's awful--her poor baby. Crystal needs to get herself clean. Doesn't sound like she needs to be a parent anytime soon.
